In August 2024, Genesee County voters overwhelmingly renewed the Senior Services Millage for the third time in 20 years, reaffirming the community’s longstanding commitment to supporting older adults. The millage, which extends through 2035, is projected to generate more than $9 million in dedicated funding during its first year following renewal for programs and services benefiting residents age 60 and older.

Through the Senior Services Millage, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners supports a broad network of programs designed to help seniors remain healthy, independent and connected to their communities. Millage-funded services include senior centers, home-delivered meals, in-home care, transportation, lawn and snow maintenance, adult day care, respite care, elder abuse prevention, legal assistance, case management, guardianship services, medical transportation and more.

We have an incredible staff (pictured below) of hard-working, people-focused team members that do a tremendous job advocating on behalf of all seniors. The Genesee County Department of Senior Services oversees the senior millage dollars to area senior centers and contracted service providers to ensure quality services and programming for senior residents.

These services play an important role in the Board’s priority of promoting healthy, safe and livable communities throughout Genesee County. The Board deeply values the contributions of older residents and recognizes the essential work of the organizations, caregivers and professionals who serve them every day.

Genesee County remains committed to supporting, partnering with and investing in organizations that provide high-quality services to seniors. Working alongside the County’s network of providers and the dedicated staff of the Genesee County Department of Senior Services, the Board continues to focus resources where they are needed most while identifying new opportunities to strengthen and expand services.

The goal is to ensure that Genesee County remains one of Michigan’s most senior-friendly communities, a place where older adults have access to the resources, support and opportunities they need to continue living fulfilling and independent lives.
