Last week, the Genesee County Department of Veterans Services presented a $20,000 check on behalf of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners to Mid-Michigan Honor Flight, supporting the organization’s work to honor veterans and recognize their service to our country.

Mid-Michigan Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization that provides Michigan veterans with a safe and memorable trip to Washington, D.C., where they have the opportunity to visit the national memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifices. The experience is provided at no cost to veterans, with trained guardians accompanying participants throughout the journey.

Priority is given to World War II and Korean War veterans, as well as veterans with terminal illnesses. Each Honor Flight can accommodate up to 70 veterans, along with guardians and support staff.

The organization’s most recent Honor Flight departed from Bishop International Airport on the morning of September 15 and returned the evening of September 16.

In July, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners approved $20,000 in funding to support Mid-Michigan Honor Flight’s mission and its ongoing partnership with the Genesee County Department of Veterans Services.

That partnership reflects the County’s continued commitment to supporting the men and women who served our nation and ensuring local veterans have access to meaningful programs, services, and opportunities for recognition.
