Genesee County Animal Care is overflowing, and the shelter is asking devoted animal lovers to step up and help care for animals in need.
Volunteers play an important role in supporting the dogs, cats and daily operations at GCAC. Whether helping with animals directly or assisting with housekeeping needs, every volunteer helps make a difference for pets waiting for care, comfort and a future home.
To make volunteering easier and more accessible, Genesee County Animal Care now offers online resources to help new volunteers complete orientation.
Those interested in becoming a GCAC volunteer should begin by watching the online orientation video and completing the volunteer application:
Applications can also be emailed upon request.
After watching the orientation video and submitting an application, prospective volunteers should select a day and two-hour time slot that works with their schedule. Available volunteer times are:
- Tuesday through Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Sunday: 8 a.m. to noon
Applicants should be sure to specify whether they would like to volunteer with dogs, cats or housekeeping.
Once those steps are completed, the GCAC Volunteer Coordinator will connect each new volunteer with an experienced volunteer for shadowing. New volunteers are required to complete a minimum of two shadowing days before volunteering independently.
Anyone with questions may contact Volunteer Coordinator Cheri Martin. Please allow up to one week for follow-up.
