The Genesee County Board of Commissioners, through the Metropolitan Planning Commission, made significant investments in District 2 (see map below) in 2024, and is poised to make more in 2025.

The funding comes from three main sources: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

For the fiscal year 2024, the Board of Commissioners invested more than $118,000 in District 2, which includes parts of the City of Flint and Flint Township. The funds enhanced local infrastructure and the overall quality of life for residents.

A wide range of projects designed to address community needs were funded, including crime and fire prevention, senior food pantry investments along with urgent roof and home repairs.

There was also nearly $27,000 allocated for engineering for the West Second St. bridge in Flint.

And here’s the best news: There’s more to come!

Planned investments for 2025 will surpass $9.1 million, addressing more of the needs listed above as well as a pair of $100,000 grants to the Brennan Senior Center and the Carman-Ainsworth Senior Center for interior and exterior facility upgrades.

The largest share of the investment ($8.9 million) for 2025 was allocated for renovations at the new Genesee County Building in downtown Flint. The county is in the final stages of the renovation of the north tower of the former Citizens Bank Building in Downtown Flint, allowing for the consolidation for four county-owned facilities – including the current administration building (opened in 1969), which requires more than $33 million in long-overdue repairs and renovations.

These investments underscore the commitment of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to promote healthy, safe and livable communities in District 2 and across Genesee County.
