Genesee County, MI — On Friday, Dr. Beverly Brown, Commissioner of the 4th District, was invited to speak at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Miracle League Field in Mundy Township. The field is a a barrier-free, universally designed space where every child can enjoy all the benefits of playing our national pastime. It is a part of the Mundy Miracle Commons,  a 99-acre park with 1.8 miles of paved accessible pathway.

The project is the culmination of nearly a decade of planning. fundraising and construction.

Dr. Beverly Brown Remarks at the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony:

Good afternoon,

My name is Dr. Beverly Brown, Commissioner of the 4th District, the home of the Mundy Miracle Commons. I was profoundly grateful to be asked to participate in this momentous day in Mundy Township’s history. This ceremony is the culmination of years of visioning and perseverance that have created a place where every child, regardless of ability, can experience the joys of childhood and recreation—simple joys many of us take for granted.

With that in mind, let us consider that the ribbon we cut today symbolizes more than just a new beginning: We are here to celebrate another barrier broken, and this is just the beginning.

What we see all around us is a testament to what we can do when we come together with the collective will to break down barriers to inclusivity and youth empowerment.

This project was made possible thanks to partnerships between Mundy Township and an intrepid group of community-minded people and organizations. I’m proud to represent Genesee County as Commissioner of the 4th District. The nearly quarter-million-dollar investment from Genesee County in Mundy Miracle Commons is proof positive of our commitment to healthy, safe and livable communities for all residents, including the 10,000 children in our county who have disabilities.

It is my hope, and I know this is shared with everyone involved in this initiative, that what has happened here in Mundy Township will spark the spirit of collaboration in all corners of Genesee County. Like many of the children who will enjoy this field for years to come, we did not get here by taking ‘no’ for an answer.

Thank you, a million times over to all those whose steadfast support of the Mundy Miracle Commons turned this dream into a reality.

So let us ride this incredible wave of momentum to forge more community partnerships just like this one. Let’s work together to secure investments in public assets and focus attention on all the things that make Genesee County a great place to start a family, to work and build for the future.

Thank you.
