Genesee County, MI — More than 100 people came together Monday for Remember & Rise Genesee County, a community gathering recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day and honoring the lives of those lost to overdose.

Despite steady rain, Genesee County’s front porch was filled with survivors and supporters, many of whom began the day at New Paths, Inc., walking approximately 1.5 miles from the organization’s Flint campus to the Genesee County Administration Building. The weather did little to dampen the spirit of those who made the walk, arriving together in a powerful show of remembrance, support, and hope.

Genesee County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dale K. Weighill welcomed those in attendance with opening remarks and read the Board’s resolution officially recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day in Genesee County.

Throughout the events, attendees had an opportunity to remember loved ones, hear from speakers, and connect with organizations providing resources and support throughout the community. The event also featured a memorial area where families and friends could honor those whose lives have been lost to overdose.
