As Genesee County celebrates the nation’s 250th anniversary, we’re also looking ahead to the generations who will call our community home 50 years from now.
As part of Genesee County Day on August 29 at Crossroads Village, a special time capsule will be created to capture a snapshot of life in Genesee County in 2026. The time capsule will preserve the people, experiences, challenges and hopes that define our community during this historic moment.
The time capsule has been compiled by the Genesee County America 250 Commission under the authority of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners as part of the County’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Inside will rest pieces of our shared history, a reflection of our daily lives, the challenges we face and the dreams we hold for the future of Genesee County.
The message accompanying the time capsule reflects the spirit behind the project:
Inside rests a snapshot of our daily lives, our challenges, and our dreams for Genesee County. We pass this history on to you with hope and pride.
The capsule will remain sealed for the next half-century before being opened by the people of Genesee County on July 4, 2076, as the nation celebrates the 300th anniversary of the United States — the U.S. Tercentennial.
For those celebrating with us in 2026, the time capsule offers an opportunity to think about what defines Genesee County today. For those who open it in 2076, it will provide a window into the community we knew, the progress we were working toward and the future we imagined for them.
Join us as we celebrate our history, our community and the generations still to come at Genesee County Day.
