Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Here’s a recap of some of the action:

Government Operations & Public Works
  • Approved a $604,227 agreement with Wieland for pre-construction and construction management services for the Genesee County Recycling and Education Center.
  • Approved a $1,670,480 architectural services contract amendment with DLZ Michigan Inc. for additional design work on the Motor Pool/GCCARD Warehouse.
  • Approved a $200,000 Dell purchase order for computers and docking stations as part of the County’s scheduled technology refresh program.
  • Approved a $105,658.71 agreement with Sentinel to upgrade and install panic buttons at multiple County buildings.
  • Approved acceptance of a $1,333,700 grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation for 2026 capital improvements in City of Flint parks.
  • Approved a grant funding from the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division for critical incident mapping at Hurley Medical Center and McLaren Hospital.
  • Approved an agreement with Wieland in an amount not to exceed $604, 227 to provide pre-construction and construction management services for the Genesee County Recycling and Education Center.
Finance & Administration
  • Approved a budget amendment to the 2025-2026 Appropriations Resolution for various line items.
  • Approved acceptance of a $363,640 Health Resources and Services Administration grant to support Genesee County’s Healthy Start Initiative.
Community & Human Services
  • Approved Genesee County’s 2026 Action Plan for the Community Development Program.
  • Approved Accommodations tax balance support agreements for several community events, including Flint Premier Soccer, Midwest Invitational Rodeo, Gus Macker-Flint Basketball Tournament, the Genesee County Agricultural Society, and the Firestix College Exposure Tournament.
  • Approved creation and filling of one Lead Community Health Liaison position.
  • Approved a $100,000 agreement with Michigan State University to assess Senior Services Millage distribution and community needs.
  • Approved a $41,462 grant award from the Genesee Area Focus Fund and the Genesee Chamber Foundation for the Summer Youth Initiative program at Genesee County Parks & Recreation.
Appointments
  • Michael LaPointe and William “Bill” Brandon were appointed to the Genesee County Planning Commission for three-year terms.
  • Lesley Mitchell was appointed to the Genesee Health System Board for a primary consumer seat for a three-year term.
  • Jillian Macey, Cecilia Rutherford, and Darryl Howard-Coolin were appointed to the Genesee Health System Board for general public seats for three-year terms.
Recognitions
  • Approved a resolution recognizing Juneteenth. It is celebrated on June 19 and marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom.
  • Approved a resolution recognizing May as Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month.
  • Approved a resolution recognizing June as Pride Month.
  • Approved a resolution recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month.
  • Approved a resolution recognizing May as Jewish Heritage Month.
  • Approved the creation of a 4-member exploratory committee for a sports and entertainment commission in Genesee County.
