Genesee County, MI – Genesee County is thrilled to announce our status as a veteran-friendly employer (bronze level) as recognized by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA). The Human Resources and Labor relations team continues to work with Genesee County’s Department of Veteran Services (GCDVS) to plan ways to build the representation of veterans, actively serving individuals, and military spouses within the county’s diverse workforce.

Genesee County is proud to support veterans in the workplace through:

• Hiring Events: Partnering with Genesee County Veterans Services and Genesee County Senior Services for annual veteran-centric outreach events and career fairs.
• Onboarding: Integrating MVAA’s VFE veterans benefits video into our onboarding process for new veteran hires. Along with County Veteran Services contacts and the National Veteran Crisis Line Phone number.
• Continued Access: Providing ongoing access to MVAA’s resources via the county’s Human Resources Website and Facebook page.
• Annual Participation: Committing to annual involvement in MVAA’s events to stay informed and uphold support standards for veterans.

In his current role as Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and Director of GCDVS, Derrick Britton champions Genesee County’s commitment the hiring of veterans.

Every year, Genesee County Human Resources will conduct a review and resubmission of its veteran support initiatives. This will involve updating goals and agreements, evaluating success, and presenting a report to the Board of Commissioners.
