In the latest installment of our Beyond the Desk series, we take you behind the scenes at Genesee County Animal Care, where a dedicated team works tirelessly to provide hope and second chances for thousands of animals each year. From adoptions and veterinary care to animal welfare investigations, community outreach and volunteer programs, the department’s responsibilities extend far beyond traditional animal control. This is why, in 2026, the department’s name was officially changed to “Animal Care.”

Learn about the challenges, successes and compassionate people who make this important work possible, and how community partnerships are helping improve the lives of animals and their owners throughout Genesee County.
