Genesee County, MI — The Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) has launched a new online form where community partners can request a visit from COMPASS, the Health Department’s new mobile health unit.

The request form and a public calendar are now live on the GCHD COMPASS webpage. Schools, workplaces, faith communities, neighborhood groups, and other partners can use the form to request that COMPASS come to their site or event. Anyone can view the calendar to see where COMPASS will be next.

“Our community partners know their neighborhoods best,” said Michelle Estell, Health Officer at GCHD. “This form gives them a simple way to bring our public health services to the people they serve. When we work together, we can reach more individuals with the care they need, right where they are.”

How COMPASS Visits Are Scheduled

The request form is one of two ways GCHD will plan where COMPASS goes:

  • Community requests: Partners use the online form to request COMPASS at their location or event. GCHD will review each request and let the requestor know if COMPASS can attend. Submitting a request does not guarantee availability.
  • Areas of greatest need: GCHD will use local health data to find areas across Genesee County with the greatest need and bring COMPASS there.

Using both methods helps make sure COMPASS reaches the people who face the most barriers to care.

What COMPASS Offers

Services on COMPASS may include health screenings, WIC enrollment, vaccines, health education, and help connecting to local programs. Services may vary by visit.

Help Spread the Word

GCHD encourages residents, partners, and local leaders to share the request form and calendar with their networks. The more people who know about COMPASS, the more people it can help.

About COMPASS

COMPASS stands for Community Outreach Mobile-unit: Providing Access, Support, and Services. GCHD created COMPASS because access to health services is not always easy. Distance, lack of transportation, work schedules, and everyday demands can stand in the way. COMPASS brings trusted public health services into neighborhoods, to events people already attend, and to places they already trust.

GCHD provides services on behalf of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. GCHD is committed to enhancing community well-being in Genesee County by preventing disease, promoting health, and protecting against environmental hazards. Our mission focuses on creating a healthier, safer environment for all residents.
