Honoring the hard work of our teammates is a tell-tale sign of a positive organizational culture. We cannot offer top-shelf programs and services to the residents of Genesee County without great people who are committed to their work every day.

At Genesee County, excellence isn’t just a value; it’s something our people live every day. Today, we’re proud to recognize JoAnne Herman, Nurse Coordinator for the Genesee County Health Department, for continuing to make a positive impact on our residents through public health.

JoAnne lives our values every day. Her work shows service, excellence, compassion, trust, teamwork, and inclusiveness in action.

Teamwork and investing in our community: JoAnne works with staff to plan activities for our medical student interns who are earning public health certificates. Her goal is to encourage them to stay and practice in Genesee County.

Service and compassion: JoAnne goes out of her way to make vaccines and vaccine information accessible to everyone. That includes home visits for residents who cannot come to us, and she does them with patience and kindness.

Excellence, trust, and inclusiveness: JoAnne practices “shoe leather public health” by meeting people where they are. She shares the importance of vaccination wherever she can. She has spoken from the pulpit on Sunday mornings at a pastor’s request. She also educates urgent care providers across the county. Each invitation builds trust and ensures that everyone has a voice and access to care.
