The Genesee County Board of Commissioners continues to invest in programs, services and partnerships that make a positive impact on the residents of Genesee County. Here are a few recent highlights from the Board of Commissioners:

• Supporting Genesee County seniors: In August, the Board approved a 3.5% funding increase for senior centers, along with contractual increases for providers experiencing waitlists for critical senior services.
• Expanding our trail network: In partnership with the Board of Commissioners, the Mott Foundation has committed up to $25 million over the next five years to expand and connect nonmotorized trails throughout Genesee County. The investment supports a new strategic trails plan developed with local municipalities and community input.
• Investing in healthier families: The Board approved a nearly $1.8 million investment in Rx Kids, supporting prenatal and infant health in high-priority communities across Genesee County.
• Connecting veterans with resources: Genesee County is now an official Michigan Veteran Connector through the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. The initiative will help connect employees and their families who have served in the military with earned benefits, resources and support services.
• Taking public health on the road: The Genesee County Health Department recently unveiled COMPASS, a new 38-foot mobile health unit designed to bring trusted public health services directly into communities throughout the county.
• Free shredding and medication disposal for seniors: Genesee County seniors are invited to the final free document shredding event of 2026 on Thursday, September 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carman-Ainsworth Senior Center, 2071 S. Graham Road in Flint Township. Medication take-back services will also be available.

These efforts are just a few examples of how Genesee County is working with community partners to improve services, expand opportunities and enhance quality of life for residents.
