The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. in the Genesee County Tower Community Room, 324 S. Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. The Community Room is on the first floor.

The need for blood is constant. In fact, every two minutes, someone in the United States needs blood. A single donation can make a life-changing difference for someone experiencing a serious injury or medical emergency.

Genesee County has already seen that impact firsthand.

Since the Sheriff’s Office implemented its Whole Blood Program in partnership with the American Red Cross, Hurley Medical Center, and the University of Michigan on May 1, whole blood has been delivered to eight patients. Seven of those patients remain alive today to share their stories.

One patient, unfortunately, died after four days in the hospital. However, that patient’s family made an extraordinary and selfless decision to provide the Gift of Life to others, allowing even more lives to be touched during an incredibly difficult time.

These stories demonstrate why blood donations are so important. When an emergency happens, donated blood can give patients, medical professionals, and families something invaluable: time, hope, and the possibility of recovery.
