Families are invited to cast a line, learn about local fish, and enjoy summer evenings outdoors during Reel Fishy Fun, a free fishing program presented by For-Mar Nature Preserve.
Designed for both beginning anglers and those looking to brush up on their skills, each session includes a hands-on lesson about fish biology, ecology and aquatic habitats before participants head to the water to try to land the big one. Fishing rods and bait are provided.
Programs take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at two Genesee County Parks locations (click links for more information):
- July 3: Fins Till the End!
- July 10: Fish ID
- July 17: Fish ID
- July 24: Watery Habitats
- July 31: Teeny-Tiny Buffet
- August 7: Fish ID
- August 14: Fish ID
The program is open to participants ages 5 and older. Adults must accompany children under age 16. Anglers age 16 and younger do not need a fishing license. Anyone age 17 or older who plans to fish will need a valid Michigan fishing license, available through the Michigan DNR eLicense system.
Participation is free, but pre-registration is required by July 2, 2026. Register through the Genesee County Parks online registration system.
