Genesee County, MI — The Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) will unveil COMPASS, its new 38-foot mobile health unit, at the Genesee County Health & Resource Fair on June 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. COMPASS stands for Community Outreach Mobile-unit: Providing Access, Support, and Services, and it is designed to bring trusted public health services directly into the communities of Genesee County.

GCHD’s mission is to improve public health and equity in Genesee County through exceptional services, advocacy, and meaningful collaboration. COMPASS puts that mission into action. GCHD understands that opportunities to improve your health are not always easy to access. Distance, lack of transportation, work schedules, and the demands of daily life can stand between residents and the care they need. COMPASS is rolling out to meet people where they are, providing more chances for every resident to access public health services and education, no matter where they live, work, or gather.

“Health equity is at the heart of everything we do,” said Michelle Estell, Health Officer at GCHD. “COMPASS now helps us live up to that every day. By bringing services and education into neighborhoods and community spaces, we are making sure every resident has a real chance to be healthy.”

Guiding Genesee County Towards a Healthier Future

GCHD’s vision is to be Genesee County’s trusted public health resource, supporting communities to thrive. COMPASS is a direct expression of that vision. Guided by values of integrity, health equity, and community-driven service, COMPASS will travel throughout Genesee County to reach residents who face the greatest barriers to care. The unit will soon be available by request to visit offices, schools, faith communities, neighborhood events, and other gathering places. No resident should be left behind and COMPASS is how GCHD aims to ensure they are not.

GCHD provides services on behalf of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. GCHD is committed to enhancing community well-being in Genesee County by preventing disease, promoting health, and protecting against environmental hazards. Our mission focuses on creating a healthier, safer environment for all residents.
