At its regular meeting on Wednesday, November 20, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners honored Mike “Flagman” Bowen of Flushing. Bowen was nominated by Lauren Thompson of the Genesee County Department of Veterans Services (GCDVS) for the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency’s prestigious Veteran of the Year Award.

During a ceremony earlier this month, Bowen was selected for the honor and members of GCDVS were on hand to celebrate with him.

“If there’s an event in Genesee County that has to do with Veterans, he’s going to be there,” said Derrick Britton, GCDVS Director. “Mike’s dedication and service have inspired our community and left a lasting impact.”
