Genesee County, MI — In recognition of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD), the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) in partnership with the Genesee Free Medical Clinic will host a special event on Friday, June 26, 2026 offering free HIV testing, food, condoms, prizes, and health education to the community.
This event is being hosted at the Genesee Free Medical Clinic located at 2437 Welch Blvd, Flint, MI 48504 and runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. This year’s NHTD theme is “Your Health. Your Power. Get Tested”. About 1 in 7 people living with HIV are unaware of their status. Undiagnosed infections can contribute to ongoing transmission and delay connection to care. Knowing your HIV status empowers you to make informed decisions, protect yourself and others, and access care if needed.
People living with HIV now have access to treatments that allow them to live long healthy lives. Antiretroviral treatment (ART) can help people living with HIV achieve an undetectable viral load in six months or less, meaning the virus is not detectable in the body and cannot be transmitted through sex to an HIV-negative partner.
Individuals who test negative for HIV can take advantage of HIV prevention methods such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), condoms, and routine sexually transmitted infections (STI) testing, all of which are offered at the GCHD Sexual Health Clinic. The clinic provides free condoms through the “Wear One” campaign which has distributed more than 350,000 condoms to the community since launching in December 2017.
GCHD provides services on behalf of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. GCHD is committed to enhancing community well-being in Genesee County by preventing disease, promoting health, and protecting against environmental hazards. Our mission focuses on creating a healthier, safer environment for all residents.
