Genesee County Department of Veteran Services is proud to announce a brand-new program launching in 2026: Running 4 Heroes (R4H), a community-based initiative created for veterans, their families, and friends who want to move with purpose while honoring those who served.
At its core, Running 4 Heroes is built around a simple mission:
- Promote an active and healthy lifestyle
- Build a strong, supportive social network
- Honor the men and women who have served our country
R4H is a team of veterans and supporters who will meet at various locations across Genesee County on scheduled days throughout the year. Whether you prefer to run, walk, or ruck, you’re welcome here. All fitness levels are encouraged to participate. This is about showing up, being part of something positive, and doing it together.
The program officially kicks off in May, and because 2026 is the inaugural year, participants have a unique opportunity: You can help shape what Running 4 Heroes becomes for years to come. From meet-up locations, to event formats, to ways we recognize and support one another — this first year will set the tone, and your voice matters.
One of the most meaningful parts of Running 4 Heroes is the team shirt. The front will feature the official team logo, and the back will include a personalized message honoring the veteran you are running, walking, or rucking for.
It’s a visible reminder that every step has meaning, and every mile carries a story.
