Each April, counties across the country celebrate National County Government Month, an annual observance led by the National Association of Counties since 1991 to help residents better understand the roles, responsibilities, and everyday impact of county government. It is a fitting opportunity to recognize that county government is where many of the services people rely on most are delivered, services that help keep communities healthy, safe, and livable.
Here in Genesee County, National County Government Month will be a chance to shine a light on the programs, services, and people who make our community stronger. Throughout the month, we will focus attention on the work being done every day to support residents and improve the quality of life by investing in our communities through investments in our people.
That means highlighting the public servants, partnerships, and county programs that meet real needs in real ways, from health and safety to records, senior and veterans services, recreation, and more. County government is at its best when it is responsive, practical, and people-centered, and National County Government Month gives us a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the work we do here to have a positive impact on our residents.
