There is some extra excitement at For-Mar Nature Preserve this week as chicks are beginning to hatch thanks to a special partnership with Genesee County 4-H.
As part of the Embryology Program, children have had the chance to learn about the life cycle of an egg from start to finish. Over the past four weeks, eggs have been carefully kept warm in an incubator, and now the long-awaited hatch week is here. Staff were lucky enough to meet the fluffy new arrivals as they made their debut.
After hatching, chicks must remain in the incubator until they are fully dry, and they should not be handled for at least 24 hours to help ensure they stay healthy and strong.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by For-Mar soon to meet the chicks and learn more about their life cycle. They will only be here for a short time, so this is a great opportunity to see these newest little friends up close.
The chicks will also be part of Spring Break Camp at For-Mar, offering children a fun and educational chance to learn even more.
