Genesee County, MI — Hockey fans in Genesee County have a reason to be excited this week as the Flint Firebirds open their first-round OHL playoff series against the Owen Sound Attack tonight, March 26, at Dort Financial in Flint.
The Firebirds enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed with a 44-17-4-3 record after a franchise-best 95-point regular season.
From the OHL:
The Firebirds won three of four regular-season meetings with Owen Sound and will open the series with two straight home games. Captain Nathan Aspinall led the way with a standout 94-point season, setting a franchise record for assists and finishing second in league scoring, while Kevin He added another major offensive threat after catching fire late in the season. In goal, Flint brings a strong one-two combination with Mason Vaccari and Mason Courville, giving the club valuable depth and flexibility heading into the playoffs.
Genesee County is fortunate to have a highly successful OHL club playing at such a high level right in our backyard. Over the years, the Ontario Hockey League has been one of the biggest sources of talent for the National Hockey League, the world’s premier hockey league — including numerous Firebirds.
