Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Here’s a recap of some of the action:
Government Operations & Public Works
- Approved the renaming of Genesee County Animal Control to Genesee County Animal Care, better reflecting the department’s mission as a no-kill shelter focused on care, protection, and placement.
- Approved the placement of the Arts & Culture Millage renewal on the August 2026 ballot.
- Approval of a request by Genesee County’s Drain Commissioner to sell the Hogan Road Boat Launch – Parcel No. 06-19-300-022 to Fenton Township.
- Approved an agreement between Genesee County and the U.S. Department of War to provide for the Skillbridge Program.
- Approved a purchase order to FLOCK, in an amount not to exceed $60,000.00, to renew the services for hardware and software products for twenty (20) FLOCK Safety Falcon Cameras; the term of this coverage is from October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026.
Finance & Administration
- Approved the assignment of General Fund balance for deficit reduction and capital improvements.
- Approved budget amendments for various county line items as part of the 2025–2026 appropriations process.
- Approved a $1.1 million annual agreement with the Flint & Genesee Group to continue Convention and Visitor Bureau services through March 31, 2028.
Community & Human Services
- Approved submission of the 2026–2027 Head Start Grant Application.
- Approved an agreement with the Greater Flint Health Coalition, not to exceed $500,000 annually, to continue the Mid-Michigan Community Health Access Program through March 31, 2028.
- Approved the 2026 Genesee County Military and Veterans Gala
- Approved applications for major parks grants to support Phase 2 of the Stepping Stone Falls lot development, an educational dock at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum, and entrance and lot improvements at Bluebell Beach.
- Approved a contract amendment for the Chevy Commons Play Garden Project, bringing the total contract amount to $1,571,800 for design and project administration services.
- Approved installation of new playground equipment at Broome Park and Sarginson Park.
Appointments
- Appointed Commissioner Gary Goetzinger to the Land Bank Board for a partial term ending September 30, 2027.
- Approved the advertisement of appointments to the Genesee Health
System and the Metropolitan Planning Commission.
