Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Here’s a recap of some of the action:

Public Safety & Justice Services
  • Approved contract with Flint Odyssey House Inc. for Sobriety Court substance abuse treatment services, not to exceed $226,283.
  • Approved MDHHS grant in the amount of $71,075 for the Sheriff’s Office Crime Victim Sustainability program.
  • Approved agreement with the Michigan Association of Counties for Opioid Settlement Steering Committee technical assistance at no cost.
Government Operations & Policy
  • Approved the Board of County Commissioners’ Focus Areas.
  • Approved resolution recognizing February 2026 as Black History Month in Genesee County.
  • Approved resolution recognizing January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
  • Approved IT project to modernize/overhaul the Emergency Operations Command (EOC), not to exceed $51,500.
  • Approved building security expansion (additional door access and camera locations), not to exceed $75,000.
Finance & Administration
  • Approved amendments to the 2025 Apportionment Report.
  • Approved creation, posting, and filling of the Chief Strategic Growth Officer position.
  • Approved salary actions for Corporation Counsel, Deputy Corporation Counsel, and Director of Administration.
  • Approved purchase order to SHI International for software/technology items, not to exceed $75,000.
Community & Human Services
  • Approved Mott Foundation grant of $730,000 for Fenton Road – Phase One non-motorized trail construction.
  • Approved Mott Foundation grant of $275,000 for trails staff support, website design, and marketing to implement the Strategic Trails Plan.
  • Approved MDHHS Weatherization grant of more than $500,000 with $28,164 match required.
  • Approved the 2026 Genesee County Veteran Organization Relief Program.
  • Approved Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) carryover funds up to $115,109 (2025–2026).
  • Approved Head Start operations agreement, not to exceed $12,359,679, fully grant-funded.
  • Approved GSRP agreement with Genesee ISD, not to exceed $687,300, fully grant-funded.
  • Approved agreement with Genesee Health Plan, not to exceed $7,700,000, funded through the Health Millage.
Appointments
  • Approved reappointment of Dr. Brian C. Hunter as Medical Examiner.
  • Approved reappointment of Dr. John Bechinski as Deputy Medical Examiner.
  • Approved Parks & Recreation Commission reappointments of Gary Goetzinger, James Avery, and Anne Figueroa.
  • Approved appointment of Travis Howell to the Parks & Recreation Commission.
  • Approved Karyn Miller to the Bishop Airport Authority for a 3-year term expiring 12/31/2028. The second appointment was postponed due to a 4-4 tie in Commissioner voting.
  • Approved the following appointments to the Opioid Settlement Steering Committee: Commissioner Dale Weighill, Joshua Groce, Deborah Hammond, Todd Witthuhn, Jill Nylander, Michelle Ryder, Antwan Croom, Sherquanda Carroll, and Elizabeth Jordan.
    • Note: Two additional committee appointments will be reposted. The appointments were considered across the following categories: Substance Use Disorder, Behavioral Health, Healthcare/Hospital, Public Safety, Judicial, Lived Experience, and three At-Large seats.
