Genesee County, MI — The Genesee County Board of Commissioners appointed Democrat Dale K. Weighill as Chair for a one-year term, following a 6–3 vote at the Board’s annual organizational meeting on Wednesday, January 6. Genesee County Clerk-Register Domonique Clemons presided over the vote.
The organizational meeting agenda included the formal election of the Board Chair and Vice Chair (Gary Goetzinger, Republican of District 3) as the first items of business, reflecting the start-of-year transition in leadership.
Weighill, who was most recently the chair of the Government Operations Committee, shared with his colleagues that it was his desire to maintain a bipartisan leadership structure moving forward, and was pleased to support Goetzinger as Vice Chair.
Weighill succeeds District 1 Commissioner Delrico J. Loyd, who served as Chairman for the previous year. Loyd took time to thank his colleagues as well as the staff of Genesee County for its support during his tenure as chairman.
“I wanted to thank everyone for their professionalism, and the excellence they brought to work every day,” Loyd said. “The progress of this county is built on their labor, their consistency and their commitment to the residents of Genesee County. I am deeply appreciative of that.”
Weighill, who has served alongside Loyd on both the Commission and the Flint City Council, took time to share his appreciation for Loyd’s friendship and leadership.
“Thank you for your leadership this last year and for moving us and the county forward,” he said. “I look forward to continued adventures with you in public service.”
Weighill, who resides in Flint Township, brings a long and distinguished record of public service to his new role. His background includes leadership at Mott Community College, prior service as President & CEO of Resource Genesee, and three years as Vice President of the Flint City Council. He has also been active in volunteer leadership across the community and holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in political science.
Weighill represents Genesee County’s 8th District, which includes Clayton Township, the City of Flushing, Flushing Township, the City of Swartz Creek, and a portion of Flint Township.
