In 2025, the Genesee County Senior Services Department continued its mission to help older adults live healthier, safer, and more connected lives. From data-driven collaboration to direct, day-to-day assistance, Senior Services focused on what matters most: removing barriers and improving quality of life for residents aged 60 and older.

A major focus this year has been active collaboration with the newly formed Senior Services Advisory Task Force, with support from Genesee County’s Planning Department, to ensure Genesee County Senior Millage funds continue to be used in the most effective and impactful way possible. Senior Services has supported this work by providing a huge amount of data and subject matter expertise. 

Senior Services also made a positive impact on senior residents through the Senior Transportation with Liaison Program. This is a unique service that provides safe and reliable transportation for seniors to attend essential medical appointments. Hundreds of older adults were able to make critical visits they otherwise might have missed, leading to improved health outcomes and greater peace of mind for seniors and their families. By eliminating transportation barriers, the program helped ensure that the lack of a ride never becomes a reason for a senior to miss out on critical care.

Families and seniors have consistently shared positive feedback about the service, describing how profoundly it has changed their ability to access healthcare and maintain independence. At the same time, the program increased efficiency through strong scheduling and coordination, optimizing routes, reducing wait times, and serving more seniors in a timely manner.
