Genesee County Animal Control reached a historic milestone in 2024, setting a new record for animal care and shelter operations. Final intake and outcome data, reported to the State in 2025, show that 3,874 animals were handled throughout the year—the highest total since formal tracking began in 2016. Each number represents an animal that received care, protection, and a chance at a better life, underscoring the vital role Animal Control plays in the health and well-being of the community.
This impressive achievement is especially notable in the context of Animal Control’s dedicated team of just 23 employees; Genesee County Animal Control delivered services that rival, and in many cases exceed, those of much larger regional shelters.
Their ability to manage an unprecedented volume of animals while maintaining high standards of care speaks to both their expertise and their dedication to public service.
Congratulations to the staff of Genesee County Animal Control for their drive, compassion and desire to serve the public by ensuring animals are treated with dignity and care.
