Genesee County, MI — The Genesee County Board of Commissioners is proud to join communities across the nation in participating in Operation Green Light, a week-long initiative recognizing the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
On Wednesday evening, the Board approved a resolution recognizing Operation Green Light 2025.
From November 4 through Veterans Day on November 11, we will illuminate county buildings in green to show our support and appreciation for the brave men and women who wore the uniform of the United States. This annual recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring veterans feel seen, valued, and supported — not just this week, but every day of the year.
To mark the beginning of Operation Green Light, Genesee County will host a Kickoff Ceremony at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 4, on the first floor of the Genesee County Administration Building, 324 S. Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. County leaders, staff, community partners, and local veterans will come together to honor those who served and reaffirm our shared duty to support them in civilian life. We invite residents to join us as we reflect on the contributions of our veterans and celebrate their continued presence in our community.
Commissioner Charles Winfrey and Derrick Britton, our Director of Veterans Services, among others, will share remarks at the event. Attendees may also take home a green light bulb, courtesy of PFCU Credit Union.
Operation Green Light is more than a symbolic display — it is a call to action. Genesee County remains dedicated to connecting veterans and their families with the services, benefits, and support they have earned, whether through our Veterans Services Department, community partnerships, or local initiatives that assist veterans facing hardship. By shining green lights across our county, we honor those who served and reaffirm our commitment to serving them in return. Together, we stand with our veterans today and every day.
