Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Here’s a recap of some of the action:

Public Safety & Justice Services
  • Approved establishment of the Opioid Settlement Steering Team to guide local prevention, treatment, and recovery programs using settlement funds.
  • Jail Treatment Program — Approved $250,000 grant from the Michigan State Police to expand residential substance-abuse treatment at the county jail.
  • Victim Services Support — Approved $263,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services for victim-assistance programs.
  • Youth Behavioral Health — Approved agreements with Genesee Health System totaling nearly $500,000 to provide therapy and mental-health services for youth at the Juvenile Justice Center.
Government Operations & Policy
  • Adopted 2025 Apportionment Report — this determines how property taxes are distributed across local units of government.
  • Creation of Evaluation Tools — Approved new performance review instruments approved for the Director of Administration and Corporation Counsel.
  • Approved Bylaws Amendment — updated procedures for presentations before the Board.
  • Approved grant award from C.S. Mott Foundation in the amount of $133,000 to provide for a demolition assessment for the now-vacant Genesee County Administration Building.
Finance & Administration
  • Budget Amendments & Expenditures — Approved budget adjustments and $16.4 million in county expenditures.
  • New Position — Approved a Tax Foreclosure Outreach Specialist in the Treasurer’s Office to assist residents at risk of property loss, funded by the Rocket Community Fund.
  • Cybersecurity Upgrade — Approved a contract in the amount of $39,700 with Cisco Duo for multi-factor authentication for county systems
Community & Human Services
  • Approved Head Start Waiver — maintains full federal support for local early-childhood education programs.
  • Approved Operation Green Light for Veterans — County buildings will again glow green in November to honor those who served.
  • Environmental & Community Grants:
    • Approved $301,000 from the Mott Foundation for the continued work of the Flint River Watershed Coalition.
    • Approved $133,000 from the Mott Foundation for demolition and environmental assessment at the former County Administration Building.
  • Parks & Recreation Investments — annual contracts approved for maintenance, safety, and facility improvements across the county park system.
Appointments
  • Two new members were appointed to the Genesee District Library Board: Brooke Gow and Jordan Johnson. The vote on the vacancy for the open Genesee County Road Commission seat was postponed.
