Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Here’s a recap of some of the action:
Appointments
- Appointed Democratic and Republican members to the Board of County Canvassers (terms through 2029): Sharon Reeves (D) and Ron Palmgren (R).
Finance & Bonds
- Approved $6.4 million bonds for Drain District #3 improvements.
- Approved $35 million bonds for Ragnone Treatment Plant service area capital improvements.
- Approved $80 million bond refinance requested by the Genesee County Drain Commissioner with a projected savings of $30 million over 20 years.
Major Contracts & Purchase Orders
- Approved $5.55 million for inmate health care services (VitalCore Health Strategies).
- Approved $1.1 million in Nutrition Services food supplies (Gordon’s Food Service).
- Approved $925,000 for Jail food and commissary (Aramark).
Health & Human Services
- Approved a $2 million amendment to agreement with Genesee Health Plan (now $7M total) to provide healthcare services for uninsured residents.
- Approved $3 million for annual uncompensated care payments to local hospitals.
- Approved a $74,000 MDHHS grant to combat emerging health threats.
- Approved $120,000 for MTA’s Vets to Wellness program (funded by Veterans Millage).
- Approved multiple food service agreements with local school districts for Head Start/Early Head Start.
Public Safety & Justice
- Accepted $1.8 million MSP Auto Theft Prevention Grant (with $1.1 million match).
- Approved police services contracts with Hurley Medical Center and Genesee Health Services (mental health crisis response).
- Approved School Resource Officer (SRO) agreements with Mt. Morris, Lake Fenton, and Goodrich Schools.
Other Notables
- Approved creation of new Public Health Coordinator position.
- Approved Suicide Prevention & Safety display at the County Administration Building.
