Genesee County, MI — On Saturday, September 20, 2025, residents are invited to gather at Paddler’s Landing in Mott Park in Flint for a unique opportunity to witness the release of young lake sturgeon into the Flint River. Scheduled for 2 p.m., this event is FREE and open to the public. No registration is necessary. It coincides with several other releases inside the Saginaw Bay Watershed on Saturday.

For families, students, and river enthusiasts, it’s an opportunity to connect with the river, learn about conservation, and actively take part in bringing back a fish that once thrived in Michigan’s waterways.

The reintroduction project, led by Michigan State University Extension, Sea Grant, and local partners, seeks to restore balance to the ecosystem and to return sturgeon to a self-sustaining level in Michigan. The Flint River release will give residents a rare chance to see these prehistoric fish up close before they begin their journey to the Saginaw Bay.
