Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Here’s a recap of some of the action:

  • Budget & Finance
    • Adopted the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Budget Appropriations Resolution
    • Approved a Self-Insured Auto Trust Agreement & MOU with the State of Michigan
    • Sheriff’s Office reorganization: eliminated Director of Community Engagement position and created a new Lieutenant position (Interdiction Team)
  • Appointments & Boards
    • Approved a pair of new appointments to the Genesee Health System Board (3-year terms): Krystal Alexander and Dr. Angela Reeves
    • Approved advertisement of vacancies on the Road Commission and District Library Board
  • Recognitions
    • Approved resolution recognizing October 2025 as Indian Heritage Month
  • Community & Economic Development
    • $2.1 million in grant-funded home repair programs approved
    • Funding approved for property acquisition via the Genesee County Land Bank
  • Human Services / Senior Services
    • Approved 16 agreements to fund operations of senior centers countywide, totaling more than $3 million from the Senior Services Millage
    • Approved contracts for In-Home Care, Meals, Elder Abuse Prevention, Legal Aid, and Transportation services for seniors, totaling more than $5 million from the Senior Services Millage
    • Approved Federal Healthy Start Initiative grants ($290,476 and $305,798)
    • Approved creation of Genesee County Senior Services Advisory Task Force with one member appointed by Commissioners from each of the county’s nine districts
  • Other Notables
    • Approved renaming and reorganization of Community Corrections into the Department of Community Engagement and Justice Services
    • Approved a request from Genesee County’s Specialty Court in the amount of $143,716.20 for one year to provide for staffing. The request is paid out of the Opioid Settlement Fund.
