Genesee County, MI — It was a beautiful day to be in Downtown Flint for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This time the traditional red ribbon was Spartan green, as hundreds were in attendance for the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s opening of the new Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health facility.

Located on Harrison Street and Second, it was constructed in less than two years on the site of the old Flint Journal Circulation Building. The 40,000-square-foot facility is an extension of the College of Human Medicine’s Flint Campus, which occupies the former Flint Journal building.

It joins numerous other major construction projects completed downtown in recent months, including the Genesee County Administration Building and The YMCA of Greater Flint.

“This expansion represents far more than bricks and mortar — it reflects a decade of collaboration and shared purpose between Michigan State and the people of Flint,” said Michigan State University President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D. “Our faculty and community partners, including the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, are proving what is possible when research is done side by side with the community it serves.”
