Genesee County, MI — Genesee County will host its International Overdose Awareness Day ceremony on Thursday August 28, 2025, from Noon until 1 p.m. on the front patio of the Genesee County Administration Building.
The event will honor those lost to overdose and recognize the lives saved through Narcan (naloxone). Speakers will include community leaders, recovery advocates, and those with lived experience. Resources for prevention, recovery, and Narcan training will also be available.
“On August 28, 2025, Genesee County will join a global movement to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day. This observance honors the lives lost to overdose, raises awareness about prevention and response, and advocates for meaningful change to end overdose. It also serves as a powerful opportunity to challenge the stigma surrounding substance use, fostering compassion, understanding, and support for individuals and families affected.”

The ceremony is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple in recognition of Overdose Awareness Day.
