Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Here’s a recap of some of the action:
- Approved a resolution recognizing June 2025 as Pride Month in Genesee County, honoring the many contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to every endeavor, occupation, and sphere of life.
- Approved a grant award from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund in the amount of $140,000 to provide for Genesee County’s DAD Initiative, a program aimed at improving maternal and infant health outcomes in Genesee County.
- Approved a grant award from the Health Resources & Services Administration in the amount of $491,816 to provide for Genesee County’s Healthy Start Initiative, a maternal child health initiative focused on improving birth outcomes for county residents.
- Approved a grant award from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services in the amount of $3,000,000 to provide water payment assistance for eligible Genesee County residents.
- Approved a pair of agreements to provide for the installation of safety vents and safety guardrails at the Genesee County Jail in the total of amount of $2,268,433.40.
- Approved an agreement between Genesee County and Variety Food Services in the amount of $367,200 to provide food services for the Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center.
- Approved a resolution from the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission recognizing Juneteenth. It is celebrated on June 19 and marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom.
