The Genesee County Board of Commissioners has made an intentional effort to ensure that our priorities align with our organization’s values. These priorities and the values embedded in them can be seen throughout our organization, in the programs and services we offer our residents, and in our approach to ensuring our employees feel valued and empowered.
One of our priorities is the promotion of Community Growth in Genesee County for the benefit of all residents. To achieve this, we must make efforts create economic stability that can sustain our residents and ultimately attract people to our community. We are committed to working alongside our partners to stimulate economic growth, and strategically plan for the housing future of Genesee County.
So, what does this priority look like in action? It is visible at every level of our organization:
- We see it in the support of the Board of Commissioners for major economic and community development projects like the Flint Commerce Center, a 330,000 square foot facility at the old Buick City site. The Board invested $3.25 million in ARPA funding for this ambitious redevelopment project that is now 100 percent occupied.
- We see it in our Equalization Department, which has invested in the CoStar service to facilitate objective and unbiased property valuations.
- We see it in Information Technology (IT), which has led an effort, alongside Commissioner Dr. Beverly Brown, to bring high-speed, high-quality, and affordable Internet to every corner of Genesee County through the NextGenesee Initiative.
- We see it in our incredible Genesee County Parks, soon to be the caretaker of the county’s first state park, consisting of 230 acres that stretch approximately 3 miles east to west and more than 1.5 miles north to south from downtown Flint.
- We also see it in the growth and expansion of Wolverine Campground, an incredible public asset for residents and visitors that has vastly improved and expanded its operations in recent years.
- We see it embedded in nearly every program and service of our Metropolitan Planning Commission, including initiatives aimed at spurring growth in affordable housing, support for urgent home repairs, and a focus on sustainability by offering free recycling of hazardous household materials to residents.
This is who we are and why we exist as an organization. It is our common purpose: To make a positive impact on Genesee County.
April is National County Government Month
During this month, we will focus attention on the variety of services provided to residents as a reminder of our critical role in promoting healthy, safe, and livable communities across our community. With that in mind, we are first and foremost grateful for every member of our team and their role in providing the programs and services that help make Genesee County a great place to live and work. #NCGM #GeneseeCountyServes
