Genesee County, MI — Delrico J. Loyd, Chairman of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, was honored to speak at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Flint Commerce Center #1 on Tuesday.

The ceremony commemorated the 100-percent occupied status at the 330,000 square foot facility at the old Buick City site.

The Board of Commissioners was proud to invest $3.25 million in ARPA funding for this ambitious redevelopment project. Work is underway for future development in the area, so this may be the first of many ribbon cutting ceremonies.

Vehicle production ceased in Buick City in 1999, and the site has been vacant since. As a result of GM’s bankruptcy proceedings, the property passed into the hands of the Revitalizing Auto Communities Environmental Response (RACER) Trust. Ashley Capital purchased the site from RACER in 2023 and is developing a state-of-the-art industrial park which will consist of approximately 3.5 million square feet. The park will be developed over several years based on market demand.

When completed, the Flint Commerce Center will represent an investment of approximately $300 million and will be a major economic catalyst for Flint, boosting economic opportunity for area citizens and tax revenues for local governments.
