The Genesee County Board of Commissioners, through the Metropolitan Planning Commission, made significant investments in District 1 (see map below) in 2024, and is poised to make more in 2025.
The funding comes from three main sources: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

For the fiscal year 2024, the Board of Commissioners invested more than $12 million in District 1, which includes parts of the City of Flint, Mt. Morris Township and Genesee Township. The funds enhanced local infrastructure and the overall quality of life for residents.
A wide range of projects designed to address community needs were funded, including job training, youth programming, senior center investments along with urgent roof and home repairs.
There was also nearly more than $8 million allocated for demolition of a majority of the Genesee County-funded Land Bank demolitions.
In addition, $1 million was invested in the Berston Field House renovation and another $3.2 million in a grant to support rehab and renovation at the former Buick City site.
And here’s the best news: There’s more to come!
Planned investments for 2025 will surpass $500,000, addressing more of the needs listed above as well as a $100,000 grant to the Krapohl Senior Center for interior and exterior facility upgrades.
In addition, $200,000 was invested in the YMCA of Greater Flint project in downtown Flint and $40,000 for a partnership to develop a plan for the Clio Road corridor.
These investments underscore the commitment of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to promote healthy, safe and livable communities in District 1 and across Genesee County.
District 1 of Genesee County is represented by Commissioner Delrico J. Loyd (pictured above). Commissioner Loyd is also the Chairman of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.
