Genesee County, MI – The Genesee County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a letter of support for Priority Waste’s proposed Materials Recovery, Processing, and Transfer facility, which will play a critical role in enhancing recycling efforts here and across the region. The 62,000 square foot enclosed facility will be at the intersection of Dort Highway and Pierson Road in the 1st District of Genesee County.

The letter of support from the Board of Commissioners clears the way for the $40-million project that will create 100 permanent jobs in our community.

The Board of Commissioners is excited to be equal partners with the State of Michigan and the City of Flint to bring jobs to Genesee County. The letter of support from the Genesee County Board of Commissioners was required for the project to proceed and to allow Priority Waste to secure the necessary permits from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy

“Residents of Genesee County are in need of job opportunities, so I’m in full support of this, and other projects like it, for that reason,” said Delrico J. Loyd, Chairman of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.

Priority Waste, based in Macomb County, will utilize the facility to prepare recyclable materials for resale. In addition to 100 permanent jobs, the construction of the facility will require up to 150 temporary jobs that will spur economic activity in Genesee County. Once completed, it will have the maximum capacity to process up to 350,000 tons of material per year.

The project, set to be completed in August, is privately funded. However, the organization’s mission aligns with a major priority of the Board of Commissioners: promoting healthy, safe, and livable communities through environmental stewardship.
