Genesee County, MI — On Wednesday evening, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners convened its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Here’s a recap of some of the action:
- The Board of Commissioners approved the following appointments to various local boards and commissions: George Wilkinson to the Bishop Airport Authority (3-year term) and Anne Figueroa (partial term expiring 8/31/27). Two other appointments were postponed until the April 23 regular meeting in order to break a 4-4 tie (the second Genesee District Library appointment and the Genesee County Road Commission appointment).
- Approved a purchase order in the amount of $78,818.80 to acquire licensing for a registration and queuing system for Genesee County’s ongoing tower project. The system will enhance the experience of residents who visit the new home of the Genesee County Administration.
- Approved an agreement between Genesee County and the National Minority Quality Forum, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, to provide continued support for the Flint Cancer Study.
- Approved a grant award from the Health Resources and Services Administration in the amount of $529,356 to provide for Genesee County’s Head Start Program.
- Approved proclamations for 2025 Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month (April) and Crime Victims’ Rights Week (April 6-12).
- Approved a contract between Genesee County and the Genesee County Agricultural Society, in an amount not to exceed $40,000 from Accommodations revenue, to support the annual Genesee County Fair.
- The Board unanimously approved a letter of support for Priority Waste’s Materials Recovery, Processing and Transfer facility that will operate in the 1st District of Genesee County. The $40-million facility would create roughly 100 permanent jobs for an operation designed to sort and prepare recyclable materials.
