Are you a resident of Genesee County District 3, which cover the City of Burton and most of Davison Township? Well, if so, meet your County Commissioner Gary Goetzinger:
Gary Goetzinger, a retired educator, was elected to the Genesee County Board of Commissioners for the 3rd District in November 2024 General Election.
Before his retirement, Goetzinger was a public school administrator, most recently serving as the assistant principal at Grand Blanc High School for 25 years. All told, Goetzinger served as an administrator for 45 years in numerous organizations, including Homer Community Schools, St. Louis Public Schools, and Mott Community College. He has served in numerous roles, including community education director, athletic director, principal, assistant principal, technology director, director of on-campus programs, coach, and educational consultant. He is a former city council member for the City of St. Louis (MI), serving two terms, one as Mayor Pro Tem.
Throughout his forty-five years in education, Goetzinger has been recognized for his community leadership through several awards including Champion for Kids, Everyday Hero Award, Outstanding Young Men of America, Spirit of St. Louis Award, Volunteer Leadership Award as well as School District of the Year. He played football and wrestling at Alma College earning All MIAA Wrestling Champion honors.
Goetzinger has served on many Boards including Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, Genesee Attendance Task Force, Coalition of Adult, Community, and Continuing Education Organization (President), Michigan Association of Community and Adult Education (President). Central Michigan Area Administrators (President), American Red Cross, Gratiot County Child Advocacy, Lions Club and many more.
In his role as Genesee County Commissioner, Goetzinger has been appointed as vice chair of the Finance Committee and Health and Human Services Committee.
Goetzinger has a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration and Community Leadership from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Alma College. He is married, has eight children and 15 grandchildren.
