The Genesee County Board of Commissioners, through the Metropolitan Planning Commission, made significant investments in District 3 (see map below) in 2024 and is poised to make more in 2025.

The funding comes from three main sources: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

Gary Goetzinger – District 3 Commissioner

For the fiscal year 2024, the Board of Commissioners invested more than $2.4 million in District 3, which includes the City of Burton and Davison Township. The funds enhanced local infrastructure and the overall quality of life for residents.

A wide range of projects designed to address community needs were funded, including road surface improvements, and public facility upgrades that will enhance essential services and accessibility for all citizens. Additionally, much-needed funding for senior center operations, senior activities and home improvements were also allocated.

Infrastructure improvements were also a major part of the overall investment, including funds for water main work in Burton, intersection improvements at East Bristol and South Vassar Roads, and a major resurfacing of East Bristol Road in Burton.

And here’s the best news: There’s more to come!

Planned investments for 2025 will surpass $10.6 million, addressing more of the needs listed above as well as a pair of $100,000 grants to the Davison-Richfield Senior Center and the City of Burton Senior Activity Center for interior and exterior facility upgrades.

The largest share of the investment ($6 million) for 2025 is allocated for the Kearsley Creek Interceptor (KCI) sewer project spearheaded by the Genesee County Drain Commissioner.

There’s also nearly $4 million invested in road projects throughout the District including the East Bristol Road roundabout and the Iron Belle Trail extension.

These investments underscore the commitment of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to promote healthy, safe and livable communities in District 3 and across Genesee County.
