Genesee County is home to a rich history of the soap box derby that dates back to the 1930s, when the event first gained popularity across the United States. Originally conceived as a fun and creative way for kids to compete using handmade wooden cars, the Flint Derby quickly became a local tradition for generations.

This particular car is showcased at Blackstone’s Smokehouse in downtown Flint.
