The Genesee County Board of Commissioners, through the Metropolitan Planning Commission, made significant investments in District 5 (see map below) in 2024 and is poised to make more in 2025.

The funding comes from three main sources: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

For the fiscal year 2024, the county invested nearly $3.2 million in District 5, which includes areas of Grand Blanc Township, Atlas Township, the City of Grand Blanc and the Village of Goodrich. The funds enhanced local infrastructure and the overall quality of life for residents.

A wide range of projects designed to address community needs were funded, including road restoration, signage and signal upgrades as well as public facility improvements that will upgrade essential services and accessibility for all citizens. Additionally, much-needed funding for senior centers, senior activities, historic preservation, parks programing were also funded.

Infrastructure improvements were also a major part of the overall investment, including funds for home and roof repairs as well as sewer pump and water main repairs improvements in the City of Grand Blanc.

And here’s the best news: There’s more to come!

Planned investments for 2025 will surpass $8.1 million, addressing more of the needs listed above as well as a $100,000 grant to the Grand Blanc Senior Center.

The largest share of the investment ($6 million) for 2025 is allocated to the KCI project, which will expand sewer capacity in Atlas, Davison and Grand Blanc Townships.

A major portion of the funding in 2025 ($1.6 million) was allocated to the aforementioned Perry Road Trail, a connection to Michigan’s Iron Belle Trail which, once fully completed, will follow a path of 2,000 miles from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula, and right through the heart of Genesee County.

There’s also a hard surfacing project coming to Green Road near the border of Goodrich and Atlas Township.

These investments underscore the commitment of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to promote healthy, safe and livable communities in District 5 and across Genesee County.
