The Genesee County Board of Commissioners, through the Metropolitan Planning Commission, made significant investments in District 8 (see map below) in 2024 and is poised to make more in 2025.

The funding comes from three main sources: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

For the fiscal year 2024, overall investments exceeded $1.2 million in District 8. The funds enhanced local infrastructure and the overall quality of life for residents.

A wide range of projects designed to address community needs were funded, including road reconstruction projects and public facility improvements that will upgrade essential services and accessibility for all citizens. Additionally, food pantry assistance was provided to Flint Township’s C-A Senior Center reflecting the Board’s commitment to addressing food insecurity in the county, connecting vulnerable populations to the resources they need.

Infrastructure improvements were also a major part of the overall investment, including funds for roof and septic repairs as well as improved ADA accessibility.

The Board funded road reconstruction in the City of Flushing and Flushing Township, including the reconstruction of W. Mount Morris Road between McKinley and Gillette.

And here’s the best news: There’s more to come!

Planned investments for FY 2025 will surpass $1.3 million, addressing more of the needs addressed above as well as the demolition of the old Genesee Valley Regional Center on Pasadena Avenue. (In case you missed it, Genesee County opened its brand new Juvenile Justice Center in District 8 in 2024.)

These investments underscore the commitment of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and the Metropolitan Planning Commission to promote healthy, safe and livable communities in District 8 and across Genesee County.

District 8 is represented by Dale K. Weighill. You can reach Commissioner Weighill at dweighill@geneseecountymi.gov or 810-341-3085.
