Each year, members of Congress has the honor of nominating young men and women to U.S. Military Academies. Derek Britton, Director of the Genesee County Department of Veterans Services, was honored to be a part of the process back in November to interview applicants for former Congressman Dan Kildee’s District.

At Wednesday evening’s regular meeting of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, Britton was proud to announce that Lucas Hamlin, a senior at Fenton High School, has received a Congressional nomination for the United States Naval Academy.

Hamlin was presented with a certificate of recognition from the 8th Congressional District.

“I’m blessed to have this young man in my district,” said District 6 Commissioner Shaun Shumaker. “This is an incredible accomplishment and I know he’s going to do great things.”

Hamlin has designs on becoming a pilot and, ultimately, a naval astronaut.

On behalf of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and all our residents, congratulations to Lucas Hamlin and his parents, Chris and Anna, on this outstanding accomplishment.
