Genesee County, MI — What do parcels, school district boundaries, and contour lines have in common? They’re all one of the many data layers we use on a daily basis that are enabled by the power of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This technology, often behind the scenes, helps our citizens, businesses and government entities of Genesee County.
Today, National GIS Day, we celebrate how this technology is transforming our county, from mapping zoning and commissioner boundaries, to using advanced tools to create visual representations of data to drive decision-making. You might not see it, but Genesee County’s GIS Department is working every day to make the services you rely on work more efficiently throughout the county.
The theme of GIS Day 2024 highlights how GIS technology has “changed the way we understand, navigate, and shape our world.”
So, if you see one of our intrepid cartographers, Ken, Paige or Christine, give them a hug (or at least a high-five)!
