Genesee County, MI — On September 27, Commissioner James Avery (District 5) and Commissioner Dr. Beverly Brown (District 4) presented a laudatory resolution (see below) to two-time olympic medalist Grant Fisher, the pride of Grand Blanc.

The ceremony took place at Grand Blanc High School’s Homecoming football game. Fisher is a graduate of GBHS and one of the most decorated athletes in the history of Genesee County.

WHEREAS, Grant Fisher, former resident of Grand Blanc, Michigan, in the County of Genesee, and distinguished graduate of Grand Blanc High School in the Class of 2015, has showcased his immense athletic talents and perseverance in the sport of distance running; and

WHEREAS, his extraordinary potential was evident in 2015 when he became only the seventh American high school athlete in history to break the 4-minute barrier in the mile; and

WHEREAS, during his time as a student-athlete at Stanford University, he made a name for himself as a 12-time national champion, and won the national title in the 5,000m event; and

WHEREAS, in 2022, Fisher continued his distance running dominance by breaking four North American records, making history as the first American to complete the 5000m in under 12:50 and the 10,000m in under 26:40; and

WHEREAS, he ascended to the very highest level of sport at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he earned a bronze medal in the 10,000m event at the Stade de France, becoming only the second American since 1964 to medal in the event; and

WHEREAS, he further showcased his prowess on August 10, 2024, as he became the first American man to medal in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at an Olympic Games, winning another bronze medal;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Genesee County Board of Commissioners hereby recognizes Grant Fisher for his incredible achievements in the sport of distance running and his representation of the United States of America on the world stage. May his strength and determination serve as inspiration to future generations.
