Genesee County, MI — On Tuesday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer gave the commencement address at the 29th I.G.N.I.T.E. graduation ceremony at the Genesee County Jail.

“Something special is happening in Genesee County,” Whitmer said about the program, which has received nationwide acclaim. “To see people taking their experience, their training and turning it into something .. it’s inspirational.”

The goal of the I.G.N.I.T.E. program is to eliminate generational incarceration through education, by restoring value, hope, and purpose.
