Genesee County, MI — Genesee County Community Action Resource Department’s Weatherization Program, one of the many critical services offered to residents, strives to maximize energy savings for our most vulnerable populations.
The program aims to ensure the health and safety of low-income families, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, by reducing energy costs from increasing the efficiency of their homes.
“This program has been a lifeline for many of our residents over the years,” said James Avery, Chair of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. “It represents our mission to support healthy, safe and livable communities across Genesee County by having a direct positive impact on the quality of life of residents in need.”
What is Weatherization?
Weatherization is a process where a home is evaluated for air leakage, insulation and energy efficiency. Based on the findings, numerous services may be completed:
- Air sealing
- Insulation
- Repair or replacement of mechanicals such as water heaters, furnaces and ventilation fans
All of the work done is at NO COST to eligible applicants. Measures are completed, and work performed, in accordance with Department of Energy regulations. GCCARD is not able to alter the guidelines.
